Bernie's has been a hub for outdoor enthusiasts for decades.

We continue to fuel all of the adventurers who visit us in Ingleton as well as those who are a little less adventurous and their four legged friends are welcome too.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our food and drinks served here at Bernie's. We seek out the best suppliers to ensure we only sell the best products to our customers.

Our seasonal menus provide variety by using fresh produce to create some all time favourites as well as some dishes you may not have heard of before.

Bernie’s has been trading on Ingletons’ Main Street for over 60 years, and the building has been home to merchants of one kind or another for even longer.

You will find us at the end of the Waterfalls Trail as you re-enter the village.

Whether you prefer rich coffees, refreshing teas, creamy hot chocolate or something a bit stronger we have a drink for you.

Our coffee is sourced from Rinaldo's in Kendal, an artisan coffee roaster. Rin is extremely passionate about his product, and so are we! Rin roasts only 100% Arabica beans, sourcing all the green beans from individual farmers or small holdings. You can be assured of the provenance of the product - farmers and workers have excellent conditions and are paid a good wage.

Our tea is from Teapigs and we have a good selection if you want variety! Teapigs was born in 2006 with one mission – to get the nation drinking real tea again, whole leaf tea, not the dusty stuff in regular paper teabags. For Teapigs it's flavour that's important. The tea in regular tea bags has been squashed, chopped and manhandled so, by the time you taste it, most of the flavour is lost.  Teapigs aim to maintain every drop of that precious flavour using whole leaf tea, whole leaf herbs, whole berries, whole spices and whole flowers.

If you prefer cold drinks we are proud to stock Mawson's drinks by Lakeland Artisan. Mawson's was established in 1933 and its signature drink is Sarsaparilla or "Sass `n` Soda" as it became known. Mawson's are still making Sarsaparilla using the original recipe today, and you can taste it for yourself here at Bernie's. We also stock a few other flavours of Mawson's drinks, the range has increased over the years to include some classics like Dandelion and Burdock and Ginger Beer.

All of our cakes, desserts and biscuits are made in house by Sarah. Everyday we have a selection of treats which will include;

Cupcakes - we make a variety of cakes, ginger, peanut and chocolate to name a few. These are paired with toppings we've perfected to make some of our favourite cupcakes, try out our s'mores cupcake or peanut butter chocolate cupcake if you're a chocolate fan. If your tastes lean more towards best of British we do ginger cupcakes and our cupcake version of the cherry bakewell.

Cheesecakes - We will usually have 2 to 3 cheesecakes available each day. We make our own baked cheesecakes in house and love perfecting new recipes so you're sure to find variety here if you become a repeat visitor! Some of our favourites so far are raspberry and white chocolate, Biscoff and our cheesecake version of the British classic - sticky toffee pudding!

Seasonal desserts - don't miss these, they will vary with our menus which will change each season. This winter we're making family favourites - Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Crumble.

Having a party? We can make you your own cheesecake, cupcakes or a whole celebration cake - just ask! We're always happy to book you in for a consultation to discuss your requirements. Either call in or you can contact us by email, our bespoke cakes are made fresh to order.

Our meat, vegetables, bread and dairy products are sourced  from local businesses and are delivered fresh several times a week.

We source our meat from Althams Butchers, one of the oldest and largest independent family owned & run butchers in the country, established in 1856. James & Richard Altham the great, great, grandsons of the founder run the business today. The company has its origins in farming; and today the fourth and fifth generation of the family are still involved on a daily basis in farming and butchery.

Our vegetables and dairy products are sourced from McClures, founded in 1945 by Bill McClure. McClures is now run by his son Keith and grandsons Ben and Matthew. A lot has changed in the seventy years since Bill was selling Morecambe Bay shrimps from his hand cart in Kendal, but his values and belief in people have remained. Bill continued to work in the family business he founded until he was 90 years old!

We source all of our bread from Seasons which is right here in Ingleton. We didn't have to travel far to find the best bread as Seasons has won plenty of awards, particularly for their sourdough! Dan supplies us with the best bread to accompany our meals and there's no shortage of variety - try our Big Cheese on beetroot sourdough! We're also bringing back the popular doorstop thick toast with our fried breakfasts.

Popped into Bernie’s after a long walk round the falls - we were extremely hungry as we’d forgotten to pack any snacks for the journey!! Great menu as there were delicious choices such as stew of the day and American cheese toasties - so nice to be given better and more interesting choices than your bog-standard cafe. All completely homemade and the chips are how my mum used to make them - delicious. I also had an apple crumble which had the perfect fruit to crumble ratio! Oh and great tea too! Staff were friendly and even asked how our food was which is rare for a cafe and our muddy boots, wet coats and soggy dog were welcome. Going back for breakfast this morning!

Came to Ingleton just after Christmas. Everything was closed. Came into Bernies unsure what to expect. I ordered the poutine which consisted of chips, cheese curds and onion gravy. Really tasty, loads of cheese and the gravy was good too. Cafe was well decorated with a welcoming log burner. Staff were friendly as well. Will be back again when I'm next in the area.

My son and I visited Bernie’s as the half way point of a walk. Well what could be better than a sausage and bacon buttie in these circumstances. Only one thing. A sausage and bacon buttie made with quality ingredients, served up in front if a roaring log burning stove with an excellent pot of tea(made with loose leaves).

It was clear that everything coming from the kitchen was made fresh and with real care and attention. It was delicious. My only comment is that there is a bit of a wait and the owners need to just push up a gear to make this fabulous little gem absolute perfection. That said, we are in a beautiful Dales village and rushing should not be a priority.
